MOSCOW — A Russian inmate escaped from his Moscow cell earlier today, allegedly using a spoon to carve a hole in the ceiling.
According to The Moscow Times, Oleg Topalov was serving time for murder and illegal possession of firearms when he fled his cell. He was sharing the cell with seven other inmates, all of whom are currently being questioned.
But the spoon detail was added by Newser: according to law enforcement, the utensil would have been “the only tool suitable for making a hole in the ceiling.”
Topalov is the fourth person in 20 years to escape from the Matrosskaya Tishina detention center, which is considered the city’s “most impregnable” prison.
