NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Corrections is welcoming 100 new recruits this Friday.
Having completed two weeks in the Tennessee Corrections Academy, the recruits will now shadow veteran officers in their assigned facility for another two weeks, according to WKRN.
They will be dispersed among 11 facilities across the state.
The TDOC has been disputing reports that understaffing has compromised the safety of both officers and inmates.
Since August 2014, the department has hired 1,333 new officers and switched to a 28-day work schedule.
