BERLIN, N.H. — New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner William L. Wrenn presented two Corrections Officers with the Department’s Life Saving Medal during a ceremony at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility on June 11, 2013. Corrections Officer Scott Watson and Corrections Officer Robby Lemieux were honored for their prompt action that resulted in the saving of a life during two seperate incidents in 2012.
In both cases the officers were assigned to the dining hall when they observed inmates choking and struggling to breathe. They used their Department of Corrections training and provided adbominal thrusts to the victims, which resulted in the items being dislodged from their throats. Both inmates were assessed by the prison’s Health Services Center and found to be in good health following the incidents.
Commissioner Wrenn said, “Had it not been for their prompt and alert response to these situations the inmates might have suffered serious injury or might not have survived. They are to be commended for their actions.”
