ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Three correctional officers with the Rockland County jail were presented with Certificates of Recognition for outstanding acts of heroism.

The three officers awarded were Officers Michael Ferguson, William Lopez and Juan Gonzalez, New City Patch reported.

Ferguson saved the life of a suicidal inmate at the jail; Lopez saved the life of a nurse being violently assaulted by a psychiatric patient at Nyack Hospital; Gonzalez saved the life of another suicidal inmate, also at the Rockland County jail.

“We often read reports of crimes committed, but rarely do we take the time to think about who watches over these criminals after they are caught, and what they endure on a daily basis,” Rockland County Legislator Lon Hofstein said.

“I was proud to have the opportunity to express our gratitude and honor these three Rockland County corrections officers for the work they have done and continue to do to protect us all.”
