LEXINGTON, Ky. — The community surrounding the Blackburn Correctional Center can’t help but wonder what kind of security the prison offers after four inmates have escaped in about as many weeks.
WKYT reports that the latest escapee, Charles Blanton, walked away from the prison Sunday night.
On April 7, Kelly Conway and James Dennis walked away from the facility; Timothy Day also escaped on March 25. It’s unclear if any of them have been recaptured.
All were serving time for charges ranging from manufacturing meth to burglary and robbery.
All that separates the prison from the community is a six-foot fence.
Inmates at Blackburn are near the end of their sentences and have been qualified as minimum custody, according to a statement released by the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
The DOC said they are reviewing events at Blackburn and are currently investigating the rash of escapes.
