John R. Wolfe II We had a guy in a trash compactor, it didn’t go well for him.

Jim Hutto In 1998 The local County Jail in the county I grew up in was right next to a Cemetery. A trustee who was assigned to take care of the grass at the Cemetery, decided to escape. He found a freshly dug hole and I guess thought he would hide out in it until night.

Long story short he didn’t think about the chances of a burial that day. He jumped out when the casket was being lowered. If memory serves a ambulance was needed for the wife of the deceased and the escapee.

Krista Kirk This guy decided that before he got into the sally port, he was going to kick out the patrol car window and jump out of the car while it was moving...while handcuffed behind his back. His face was really jacked up for a while.

Frank De Biase Cunning female inmate “fell in love” with a young officer who brought her in a shield and uniform and walked her out the front door. The count was off. He forgot his car keys and came back to the jail for them. I questioned him as to why he was here as it was his pass day. He said “I want a lawyer.” I detained him and caught her in the parking lot sitting on his car.

Aloysius Van Goli Had a “guest” throw himself out in a trash bag and drive a Captain’s car out.

Wendy Dolny Over three decades ago, when I was in college studying Criminal Justice, we paid a visit to William Head Penitentiary on Vancouver Island in Canada. It’s a federal minimum security facility. At that time they had a drama club, and being Halloween, they were putting on a play with vampires in it. One of their props was a coffin made out of planks of wood.

Well, you guessed it: That night, one of the inmates decided to try and escape using the coffin as a canoe. (the penitentiary was located on a spit of land, surrounded on three sides by water). He didn’t get too far before he was noticed and the Coast guard was called in to pick him up.

Prior to their arrival, however, the coffin, which was not waterproofed, was slowly sinking as water seeped through the cracks. Instead of paddling toward land, he continued out towards the ocean. His coffin sank and the Coast Guard plucked him out of the ocean.
