LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Allegations of hogtying are being made toward a juvenile correctional facility in Nevada, and one judge took them seriously enough to have all inmates removed from the facility.
8 News Now reports that inmates at Nevada Youth Training Center were allegedly being made to lay on the ground with their hands and feet bound together behind their backs.
This practice is legal if being used as a restraint method to keep an inmate from harming themselves, but the allegations say this was used as punishment.
The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services released a statement that read “even though the identified restraint which ensures appropriate safety of the youth and staff adheres to American Correctional Association requirements, it has not been used at NYTC since Dec. 2013.”
Still, the 12 juvenile offenders from the facility are still being relocated to other facilities, per Clark County Judge William Voy’s order.
