MIAMI — A man was charged with murder Tuesday after police say he killed a Miami-Dade Corrections officer inside the officer’s Pembroke Pines home earlier this year, police confirmed Tuesday.
Daveon Hall, 40, was found dead from several bullet wounds just before 6 p.m. on Jan. 29 inside his apartment.
On Tuesday, Pembroke Pines police arrested Brian Fairweather, 29. Fairweather was charged with one count of first-degree murder, three counts of possessing fictitious drivers licenses and one count of driving without a license.
According to Fairweather’s arrest affidavit, Hall was found in a pool of blood by a relative.
During the investigation, police spoke to Hall’s neighbor Tracey Vassall, who told detectives she was in a relationship with Hall.
Vassall is married to Fairweather, according to the report. Detectives spent February and March trying to piece together witness accounts, surveillance footage and cell phone records.
Detectives intervied Fairweather early in the process and he denied involvement, according to police.
Witnesses told police that Fairweather and an acquaintance revealed details about the murder, including wearing gloves and trying to clean the apartment with bleach, according to the arrest affidavit.
Cell phone records show that Fairweather and the unnamed acquaintance communicated 49 times on the day of the murder, an officer wrote in the report.
On Monday, detectives found Fairweather, who did not have a license, driving a rented U-Haul truck in Miramar. After being taken to the Pembroke Pines Police Department, Fairweather told detectives that on the day of the murder he saw Hall’s door open and told the acquaintance, a detective wrote.
“The defendant admitted that he heard three to four loud bangs coming from the apartment and believed that they were gunshots fired by the acquaintance,” the detective wrote.
Pembroke Pines police said in a statement Tuesday that the investigation has not led to any indications that the victim was targeted due to his affiliation with Miami Dade Corrections.
