LEXINGTON — Officials made the all clear at 3:45 p.m. Friday on two confirmed bomb threats at the Lexington and Joseph Harp correctional center.
Oklahoma Department of Corrections spokesperson Jerry Massie said a bomb threat for the Lexington and Joseph Harp correctional centers was called in Friday morning around 10.
“We immediately went into lockdown,” Massie said.
Massie said all indications were that the bomb threats were a hoax, but officials erred on the side of caution.
Both facilities house more than 1,000 inmates each and have a few hundred staff members, he said.
The Lexington Correctional Center first opened in 1971. The Lexington Assessment & Reception Center is a multi-function, state operated adult male correctional institution. The institution has a capacity of 1,439 males. Lexington Assessment and Reception Center serves as an intake and a long-term male facility.
Joseph Harp Correctional Center is a medium security facility that houses a total of 1,405 offenders. It is the largest medium security facility in the state. Inside the facility, the staff work with a diverse group of individuals, as they house the Mental Health offenders, Delayed Sentence offenders and Youthful offender, according to the Department of Corrections.
