HONESDALE, Pa. — A 10-year-old boy who’s been in an adult jail since authorities say he fatally beat a 90-year-old woman two months ago is scared, lonely and misses his mother.

That’s according to his public defender, who says the boy is “doing as well as can be expected” in the county lockup in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The boy is one of the youngest ever to face an adult homicide charge in Pennsylvania. Defense attorney Scott Bennett says he intends to have the case moved to juvenile court.

In the meantime, the boy remains in the Wayne County Correctional Facility. Jail officials supply him with books and movies. A teacher helps him keep up with his schooling.

But a juvenile law expert says the adult jail is no place for a child that age.
