SACRAMENTO — The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation honored six employees of correctional facilities in and around San Joaquin County during its annual Medal of Valor ceremony last week.
Employees were recognized for “extraordinary bravery” and going “above and beyond the call of duty” in lifesaving incidents. Local honorees were among 115 medal recipients. They are:
Executive of the Year: Ronald Rackley, warden of the newly opened California Health Care Facility in Stockton. Rackley is a former warden at Deuel Vocational Institution in Tracy. He was recognized for overseeing the 54-building, $839 million medical facility while it was under construction over the past year. The facility was constructed to house the state’s sickest prison inmates.
