SANFORD, Fla. — Charges have been dropped against an Orange County correctional officer who was accused of pointing a gun at a renter during an argument.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Laura Hindman, 49, is on paid leave while her employer conducts its own investigation. Hindman’s lawyer, Heiko Moenckmeier, claims the incident never happened.

According to the arrest report, Hindman had been drinking and got into an argument with a man who was renting a room in her home.

They had been discussing the prospect of Hindman starting her own business. Hindman allegedly left the room and returned with a semi-automatic pistol, which she then waved around before pointing it at the man.

The man raised his hands, turned and left the room.

Hindman then fell to the floor, crying and dropped the gun.

Moenckmeier said the renter didn’t contact the police after the alleged incident, and instead contacted Orange County Corrections three weeks later.

The police didn’t become involved until six weeks after the incident.

Hindman was arrested Oct. 22, and prosecutors dropped the case Nov. 14.
