BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A correction officer at the Belmont Correctional Institution has been placed on paid administrative leave and an investigation is now underway into that officer. Prison officials are not releasing much information about their investigation, but NEWS9 has learned of a potential reason from another source.

President and CEO of Riesbeck’s, Richard L. Riesbeck, told NEWS9 on Monday that one of his employees spotted a man at the Saint Clairsville store last week in the magazine section. That man allegedly placed a magazine with “inappropriate material” on the rack. In a statement from Riesbeck, he said, “An investigation is currently underway as the result of an alleged incident; (…) however, internal stages of the investigation suggest that Riesbeck employees were not part of any alleged wrongful acts.”

NEWS9 was told that the employee who spotted the man said he was wearing a uniform similar to that of a state corrections officer.
