MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A discrepency in a report about an incident that lead to an inmate’s head being slammed into a wall has landed a Marion County correction officer with a letter of counseling.
CO Alex Dickson initially reported that he and inmate James Duckworth had eye contact before Duckworth spit on him, according to the Ocala Star Banner. Later, he changed his statement, saying that they did not make eye contact.
The spitting lead to another CO slamming Duckworth’s head into a wall hard enough to leave blood behind. That officer is scheduled for a hearing on Feb. 19 after being charged with simple battery. Another CO says he did not see the spitting, but had turned around to see who was coming through a door.
Duckworth remains in the jail, with a court hearing set for April 3.
