CHESTER, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Corrections says the brother of a convicted murderer has resigned his job as a state prison guard.
Corrections Department spokesman Tom Shaer tells the Belleville News-Democrat that 35-year-old Brad Coleman of Chester has resigned. Coleman is the brother of Christopher Coleman, who is serving a life sentence for strangling his wife and children.
Brad Coleman had applied for a disability award claiming post-traumatic stress disorder. Brad Coleman said constant worrying about his brother caused him to have PTSD. State officials say the resignation means Brad Coleman now won’t be eligible for the disability claim.
A telephone listing for Coleman in Chester was disconnected.
Christopher Coleman was convicted in the 2009 deaths of Sheri Coleman and the couple’s sons, ages 11 and 9.
