HONOLULU — Four corrections officer graduates are coming to Kauai.

The Department of Public Safety welcomed its newest class of 15 adult correctional officer graduates at ceremony and luncheon Friday at the Hale Koa Hotel in Honolulu.

Recruits completed an eight-week program that included 440 hours of classroom time and physical training. The recruits learn suicide detection and prevention, first aid, CPR, crisis intervention, gangs and subcultures, use of weapons, self defense tactics and physical agility training.

This is the first class on Oahu to receive recruit field training with the basic corrections program. It was added to the final weeks, at a time when the recruits go into a facility and begin on-the-job training with the guidance of training sergeants.
