MERCER COUNTY, Pa. — While Mercer County attempts to get a separate lawsuit involving corrections officers dismissed, another former, part-time corrections officer is suing for being denied due process.
The Herald reports that Maranda Addison sued for being fired over failing to report allegedly criminal activity.
Warden Erna Craig, named as a defendant in the suit, allegedly held a Loudermill hearing, which requires a public employee to be notified of the charges against them and be allowed time to respond to them prior to being fired.
Addison said she had no knowledge of the allegations against her prior to the hearing and was not allowed to consult a lawyer prior to the hearing or have a lawyer attend the hearing.
Addison is a five year veteran of the county.
The county is also defending itself against a federal suit filed by current and former corrections officers, who claim they are due thousands of dollars in unpaid overtime because they had been required to show up early for work for roll call.
