GOLDEN, Colo. — The man believed to be the first inmate to ever escape from Jefferson County Jail pleaded not guilty Monday morning.

CBS News reports that Travis Sandlin, who was recaptured 10 days after he climbed out a small gap of fencing and dropped onto a roof in order to escape, was a career criminal even up to his escape from jail.

While he was on the lam, he stole cars and credit cards, up until he crashed a stolen minivan and was arrested.

He was originally being held for burglary, trespassing, theft, motor vehicle theft and felon in possession of a handgun, among other charges. At the time of his escape, he was being held in the most secure pod due to his alleged drug use and long criminal history.
