MARION COUNTY, Fla. — While one corrections officer’s case of allegedly mishandling an inmate at the Marion County Jail makes its way through the court system, a corrections officer who left the agency during the investigation has since returned.

According to Marion County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. James Pogue, Alberto Rodriguez was re-hired Jan. 6 as a corrections officer and is working at the jail.

Rodriguez was within close proximity of the Oct. 8, 2013, incident at the jail, where surveillance video showed corrections officer Charles Broaderick slam inmate James Duckworth’s head into a concrete wall after it was alleged Duckworth spit on corrections officer Alex Dickson.
