WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — A new program for inmates who are fathers is hoping to rehabilitate the offenders and keep them on a straight path.
WMBB reports that In and Out Dads is a 12-week course for male inmates and teaches them how to keep in contact with their children while incarcerated.
“We all have the same problems, you know what I’m saying, so it’s just me looking at my problems and I can see everybody else and the similarities. I’m trying to do better as a father and as a person,” said Justin Bray, an inmate participating in the pilot program. “I’m trying to be there for my child.”
The course offers time for dad inmates to have an open discussion about problems. Bray says he’s using the time to think about more ways to spend time with his daughter.
“You don’t have enough time on this tape, but just fishing and hanging out with her. Letting her know I’m there even though I’m in here,” Bray said.
Officials have received positive feedback about the program and are considering a class for inmate mothers.
