Flaw in ankle monitoring of Okla. offenders

With a system too simple, it’s too easy for offenders to commit a new crime

OKLAHOMA CITY —Convicted criminals in Oklahoma are walking around the state as inmates. Their “jail bars” are nothing more than a bracelet around their ankles.

KOCO has uncovered a huge flaw in the system. Tonight about 700 Oklahoma inmates are walking among us and most of us don’t even know it.

“People look at it and say, ‘It’s GPS, this guy’s not going to be able to get 30 feet from his house before people come swarming in,’ and that’s not reality,” Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn said. Mashburn is shedding light on the system.
