GENESEO, NY — A time card fraud investigation has prompted eight former Livingston County jail deputies to accept a plea deal.
WHAM reports that nine were accused of having part-time deputies work their shifts. The deputies would be paid for the shift, an in turn pay the part-time workers cash.
Seven pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of criminal solicitation while one pleaded guilty to offering false instrument for filing.
No supervisors were charged in the fraud.
“The persons who allowed this to happen retired to the shadows with accolades and testimonials,” said Judge Tom Bushnell.
District Attorney Gregory McCaffrey says supervisors approved the shift swapping, but insists they didn’t specifically approve the “pay for work” practice.
All nine deputies have resigned from their posts.
