Ga. trailers set up for jail renovation

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - Trailers have been set up in front of the Fulton County Jail to accommodate visitors and bonding operations while officials renovate the reception area of the lockup.

According to a news release, the trailers are needed as the jail begins the second phase of a $55 million renovation that is supposed to include improvements to electrical, plumbing heating and air-conditioning systems. Once they’ve checked in, visitors will wait in a walled-off area of the existing visitation area until time for them to see their friends or relatives in jail.

The trailers also have taken away some of the parking — 112 spaces — but there will be an overflow lot and a shuttle to the building soon, according to the release. Meanwhile, jail officials are working with MARTA to pick up and drop off visitors closer to the door.
