CHICAGO, Ill. — One lawmaker wants the state to take a closer look at the racial makeup of convicts in state prisons.
Senator Donnie Trotter of Chicago is backing a plan to study that and the crimes they’ve committed. The Democrat says the bill is important because minorities make up a much higher percentage of prisoners than the general population in the state.
Trotter says looking at the information could help leaders better understand why this is happening.
