WASHINGTON, Ind. — More than 120 jailers representing 17 Indiana counties were on hand Tuesday at an event hosted by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. The Indiana Sheriff’s Association put on the meeting. Officials explained 50 people were set to take part; the influx of 120 forced program administrators to move from the Daviess County Security Center to a nearby reception hall at a city park.
Steve Luce, the Executive Director of the Indiana’s Sheriff’s Association stated the seminar helps jailers put in place common practices while on the job; a job he called the ‘most dangerous’ in any county. Luce explained the goal of the seminar is to train jailers at a professional standard and how to handle “What if?” situations.
“7 out of 10 lawsuits that come across a county usually involves jail operations,” Luce said.
