RACINE — An inmate in the Racine County Jail has been charged with intimidating a witness after trying to get his ex-girlfriend to recant her statement and drop charges in his domestic abuse case against her.
Ronald Badillo, 45, Racine, reportedly sent 11 letters and made 391 phone calls from the Racine County Jail to his ex-girlfriend, Maribell Velez, urging her to recant her previous statements to police to allow his felony case to be dismissed.
Velez told authorities that Badillo attempted to call her at least five times a day from his arrest on Oct. 22 until Nov. 15. Upon investigation, authorities learned that the telephone calls had been placed to Velez’s phone number from the Racine County Jail where Badillo was housed, according to the criminal complaint.
