CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident where a 60-year-old woman was stunned with a TASER for not removing her earrings.

WRCB TV reports that the Internal Affairs is weighing whether excessive force was used during the incident.

Nancy Mason was booked into the jail on March 21 for theft, and records show this was her first offense.

According to Mason, she was moving to take her earrings out when she felt the current from the TASER prongs travel up her body.

“I didn’t even see it coming,” she said.

She fell and broke her arm in three different places. In her mugshot, her injured arm is cradled in a sling.

She says she didn’t threaten any correctional officers and doesn’t know why an officer decided to stun her.

Capt. Bill Johnson, who oversees the Internal Affairs department, says he hasn’t been briefed on all the details of the case and will make more information public at a later date.
