LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Metro Corrections officer was fired after it was discovered that he’d brought brass knuckles into the facility, and also for failing to report a fight between two inmates.
WDRB reports that CO De’Sean Ramsey is under investigation for both incidents. He was placed under administrative leave with pay.
Metro Corrections Director Mark Bolton said in an email that the jail investigation sustained what “appears to be an isolated incident” that was reported by his fellow officers.
Ramsey claims that he had been taking pictures of the brass knuckles to post on a website where he sells “law enforcement military support bracelets” before his shift, then inadvertently left them in his uniform pocket.
He is also accused of having brass knuckles outside the jail on Sept. 4, but is accused of lying about it during the investigation.
Sgt. Steve Eason told investigators that Ramsey came up to him outside the jail on Sept. 4 wearing brass knuckles and playfully tapped them on the wall next to Eason. Ramsey maintains that this never happened.
After Eason reported the incident, Ramsey was told to empty his pockets during his next shift and pulled out brass knuckles.
