PAMELIA, N.Y. — A Maryland prison guard being sought for the murder of his wife apparently killed himself at an interstate rest stop in northern New York, state police said.
Troopers found the body of Donald Webb Jr. in his parked vehicle on Sunday just before 4:30 p.m. while conducting a routine check of a northbound rest stop on Interstate 81 near the U.S.-Canadian border.
State police said Webb, 48, of Baltimore, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Webb’s body was taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown for an autopsy. A medical examiner will attempt to learn how long Webb was dead before his body was found.
Baltimore police had been searching for Webb late Friday when he allegedly shot his wife, Cynthia, 42, several times during a dispute. Webb also shot his 13-year-old stepson several times. The boy survived.
Webb was a 17-year veteran with the Baltimore City Correctional Center.
Baltimore police said they would test the apparent suicide weapon to determine if it is the same gun Webb used to shoot his wife and stepson.
