FLINT, Mich. — Genesee County inmates will soon have access to comfort food like hot dogs, hamburgers and pulled pork, thanks to the decision to allow a “Chuck Wagon” to roll around the facility.

NBC News reports that inmates will be able to purchase items from the food cart using their debit accounts; staff would also be able to purchase items.

“It’s a way, in talking to sheriffs across the country, a way to raise some money to support the office of sheriff and I’m hopeful we’ll be able to do that,” Robert Pickell, the Genesee County Sheriff, said.

A similar program was started in Oakland County and brought in more than $175,000.
