LUCEDALE, Mississippi — A suspect who failed to appear before Circuit Judge Robert Krebs for sentencing in January has been captured in Clark County and returned to George County, according to Sheriff Dean Howell.
Joseph Phillip Knowles, 52, of Bexley Road North in George County, had been convicted of possession of controlled substance, methadone, in November 2013 and had been allowed to stay out on bond until his scheduled sentencing in January.
When he failed to appear in January to receive and begin serving his sentence, Krebs issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Tips from citizens that Knowles had been in Pennsylvania did not pan out, then another tip came into the sheriff’s office last week that Knowles could be hiding at his son’s residence in Quitman.
Howell contacting investigators with the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, which ironically had just arrested Knowles’ son who had been visited at the county jail by the George County suspect.
Howell sent deputies to Clarke County on Friday, and with the assistance of Clarke County Sheriff’s deputies, were able to locate and apprehend the 6-foot-2, 330-pound Knowles without incident.
