HINDS COUNTY, Miss. — Hinds County Sheriff’s Department investigators are looking into allegations that a female inmate is several weeks pregnant, despite an extended stay at the department’s downtown Jackson jail.
“We have received the allegations, and we’re turning it over to internal affairs,” Chief Deputy Chris Picou said today. “I received reports of it last week, and we’re looking into it.”
Federal law prohibits him from discussing an inmate’s medical condition, Picou said.
The unnamed female inmate reportedly is two months pregnant, yet has been at the jail quarters housing women only for about 10 months.
