UNION, Mo. — A jail employee has been suspended without pay pending a disciplinary hearing after an inmate alleged that his food was spiked with pepper spray.
The Missourian reports that the deputy is accused of spraying pepper spray on a slice of Domino’s pizza and then offering that pizza to an inmate.
The inmate then shared the pizza with several others; all suffered mouth and stomach “discomfort,” according to Sheriff Gary Toelke.
Following a disciplinary hearing, the deputy will have five working days to appeal any decision. The final decision is up to the sheriff.
