NM prison chief goes undercover to test solitary confinement

NEW MEXICO – In order to get a better sense of whether solitary confinement is a usable tool in inmate rehabilitation, the secretary of corrections for the state of New Mexico went undercover as an inmate to experience it for himself.

ABC News has video of Gregg Marcantel’s time as an inmate and his reflections on solitary confinement. He spent 48 hours on the inside to see how to best reform the state’s use of solitary.
