NM prison inmates use artwork to give back

Inmates make hand-made patio furniture, custom cedar chests, paintings, even chile roasters and barbecue grills

SANTA FE — Prison inmates from across New Mexico are tapping into their talents to help victims and their families. People might be surprised by some of the items they’ve created.

There is hand-made patio furniture, custom cedar chests, paintings, even chile roasters and barbecue grills. Every piece in the warehouse is unique.

“There’s a lot of people with talent that spend a lot of time making their projects,” said Antonio Romo, a prison inmate at the Western New Mexico Correction Facility in Grants.
