Oklahoma outlaws ‘revenge porn’ as governor signs 30 bills

By sharing the photos, a person could face up to one year in prison, a $1K fine or both

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has signed a bill that outlaws the practice of sharing so-called “revenge porn,” along with 29 other bills now set to become law.

Starting Nov. 1, it will be a misdemeanor in Oklahoma to distribute private photos featuring nudity or sexual acts without the consent of the subject of the image. Violators convicted of trying to “harass, intimidate or coerce” the photo subject by sharing the photos could face up to one year in prison, a $1,000 or both.

Another law signed Thursday says people who are parties to parental-rights-termination cases and fail to appear in person for a jury trial will forfeit their rights to demand a trial by jury.

Fallin has now signed 265 bills into law this year and vetoed two.
