GLOUCESTER COUNTY — A Gloucester County Corrections officer who died while on duty in June will be honored next weekend in the Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Fund’s Ride to Remember.

Officer Agostino “Gus” Fare died suddenly while on duty on June 12 while driving a department vehicle. The Hero Scholarship Fund provided initial monetary assistance to Fare’s family — his wife and two young children — within 24 hours of his passing, a service it provides to all families of Gloucester County law enforcement officers who are permanently disabled or die in the line of duty.

Fare, who grew up in Mantua, had been with the county Department of Corrections since 2002.

“When Gus passed, the presentation was made to his family within 24 hours of his death,” said Mike McEnry, the scholarship fund’s president and paramedic with Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. “When (Fare’s children) become of college age, we will provide tuition assistance.”
