SD inmate’s release delayed by prison death

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man’s release from prison was delayed after another inmate was found dead Tuesday morning at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield.

Dennis Lashley, 62, was found unresponsive in his Harmon Hall room after a fight with 49-year-old Kendall Osteen earlier in the morning.

Osteen’s five-year sentence for fourth-offense driving under the influence ended Tuesday. He was sentenced in October 2006 in Pennington County.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating Lashley’s death.
