MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County corrections officer has been fired after being charged with domestic violence after an incident earlier this month, officials said.

Marlon Porter, 31, has been charged with aggravated burglary/domestic violence and robbery. He remains in the Shelby County Jail. He was fired Thursday morning.

According to Shelby County Sheriff’s spokesman Chip Washington, the incident happened Aug. 7 at a home in the 1200 block of Bridgewater in the Cordova area. A woman there said Porter, also the father of her child, kicked in the front door and then went upstairs to where she was hiding with the child. Although they’d broken up several months ago, the victim said Porter had been harassing her about getting his belongings. When she tried to call 911, Porter grabbed her phone and threw it over the fence, officials said.

Porter had an order of protection sought against him in 2009, court records show. He was hired in February 2014, and was arrested last Dec. 12 for domestic violence. The victim declined prosecution, but Porter was still suspended for 30 days without pay and required to take an anger-managerment class.
