PLYMOUTH — A PRISON guard has lost weight and raised more than £1,000 for a little girl who suffered a brain injury after being hit by a van.
Last October 37-year-old Chris Smaldon, a dad-of-two from Pennycross, set himself a goal to lose a significant amount of weight to raise money for local youngster Poppy Drake who was hit by a van on Radford Park Road, in Plymstock, during 2011.
She was hospitalised for six months and suffered a brain injury as a result.
But little Poppy has defied all the odds and is now on the road to recovery, even having returned to mainstream school.
