UPDATE 4/18/14 11:03 AM: The attacker approached the officer while he was sitting at a desk and slashed him in the face with a homemade weapon. The officer attempted to restrain the inmate, but the inmate ran and was quickly caught by other officers.
The injured officer took himself to the prison infirmary, where he was then taken to the hospital. He has since been treated and released.
The attacking inmate has been identified as Joel Perez, who is locked up on a homicide conviction.

DALLAS, Pa. — An unnamed corrections officer with the State Correctional Institution was taken to the hospital after he was stabbed on the job in Luzerne County.
According to WNEP, there’s no word on how serious his injuries might be; state police are investigating.
SCI Dallas is on lockdown until further notice and visitations have been cancelled after an ‘inmate-on-officer assault.’
