GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. — Several deputies are being scrutinized after video surfaced showing the alleged beating of an inmate.

WXYZ reports that Fernando Davis was arrested for driving under the influence and brought to the Genesee County Jail.

Video shows Davis in a cell, wearing a jacket over a blue inmate outfit. He approaches the entrance of the cell, but there’s no sound. Deputies abruptly rush into the cell, taking Davis to the ground in a violent fashion.

WXYZ reports that deputies claim they responded appropriately throughout the altercation, but their sworn testimony conflicts with what’s seen on the tape. Their sworn testimony was not included in WXYZ’s original article.

Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell was not available for comment regarding the incident, but his undersheriff later said they could not comment on cases in litigation.
