OCALA, Fla. — Video footage shows a juvenile detention center ‘snapping’ and striking a juvenile inmate.
Click Orlando reports that Curtis Thornton, 26, was arrested on cruelty to a child and aggravated child abuse charges.
Surveillance video shows Thornton and a teenager sitting in a corner of a classroom in the Marion Youth Academy. Thornton gets up and moves a few feet away from the teen, but the teen then throws a wad of paper at Thornton.
Thornton retaliates by hitting the teen so hard, he falls out of his chair. Thornton continues by straddling the teen and striking him even more. Investigators who looked closely at the video say Thornton grabbed a radio that he used to strike the teen with.
Other teens finally separated the counselor and the inmate.
The teen suffered a large head gash and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators say Thornton told them he was trying to “redirect” the boy because he was tired of having him throw paper wads at him.
Thornton was arrested and booked into the Marion County Jail, where he posted bond Thursday night.
Back in 2013, Thornton was arrested and charged with domestic violence, a charge that was later dropped.
