MONONGALIA COUNTY, W. Va. — A West Virginia teenager this week agreed to serve the remainder of her sentence for the 2012 stabbing death of her friend in a state prison.
Rachel Shoaf, 17, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of 16-year-old Skylar Neese and was sentenced in February to 30 years in prison.
Monongalia County prosecutor Marcia Ashdown said Shoaf, who will turn 18 next week, could have petitioned the court in a hearing scheduled for Thursday to allow her to remain in juvenile custody. Instead, she waived the proceeding and agreed to the order, which Circuit Judge Russell Clawges signed Wednesday.
Shoaf will be eligible for parole after 10 years.
