RENO COUNTY, Kan. — An inmate with a prior conviction of aggravated escape has disappeared again, after being labeled eligible for a work release program.
KWCH reports that Christopher Ward left his work release job at Cal-Maine Industries Saturday afternoon and hasn’t been seen since. The public is demanding answers.
A spokesperson for the DOC said that there is a screening process in place to decide whether inmates are eligible or not for work release programs.
Escape history is one factor that goes into the process, but the DOC only looks at the past ten years.
Ward’s prior escape was 20 years ago, and his current disciplinary report over the last five years has “been very good.”
“It’s a privilege to be able to work, to be able to gain some money to help fund your re-entry into society and it’s a privilege that can’t be abused,” the spokesperson said.
A privilege that Ward will likely lose once he is caught. He is currently serving an 8-year sentence for theft and burglary.
