CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man who spent nearly 40 years of his life in prison for a murder he did not commit is suing the city and several former police officers for his incorrect sentencing.
FOX News reports that Ricky Jackson was convicted in 1978 at the age of 18 for the murder of Harold Franks on the testimony of a 12-year-old boy who later recanted.
Jackson was released from prison in November after his charges were dismissed.
The suit accuses officers of fabricating evidence and violating several Constitutional rights. He is seeking damages as well as asking for a jury trial for the officers involved.
The city rejected requests for comment, saying it did not comment on pending litigation.
Jackson was awarded $1 million for false imprisonment in March by the Ohio Court of Claims.
