EVANSTON, Wyo. — An officer with Uinta County Sheriff’s Office was honored with the title of ‘2015 Detention Officer of the Year’ at the annual Wyoming Peace Officers Association Awards banquet.

The Uinta County Herald reports that Sgt. Sarah Jeffers, an 18-year veteran of the department, was chosen through a committee to receive the award.

Jeffers was hired in 1998 as a detention deputy, and she quickly achieved the rank of field training officer, where she had a positive influence on new hires.

She has also been a medical officer and was promoted to sergeant in 2007. She has received numerous accolades and praise for her work with inmates.

“Sgt. Jeffers’ leadership, character and commitment to her chosen law enforcement career over the past 18 years is commendable and worthy of consideration,” Uinta County Sheriff Doug Matthews wrote in his letter nominating Jeffers for the award.
