FARGO, N.D. — A Cass County Jail inmate is suspected of selling LSD-laced Jolly Ranchers to other inmates.

Grand Forks Herald reports that an informant told officers an inmate was selling tabs of acid affixed on Jolly Rancher candies to other inmates, exchanging them for $15 worth of commissary items per candy.

The informant claimed that the same inmate also had heroin, meth and marijuana hidden in his body.

After a search of the inmate’s cell, officers turned up a bag of Jolly Ranchers. Eight of the hard candies were allegedly found to have doses of acid on them.

The search also turned up nitrile gloves that officers believed the inmate used to place the acid on the candies without being absorbed into the inmate’s skin.

A search of the inmate’s person did not turn up any narcotics, though they did have Jolly Ranchers in one pocket; x-rays performed on the inmate later in the day did not turn up any drugs either.

The inmate has not yet been charged in connection with the allegations.
