SALEM, Ore. — Two minimum-security inmates walked away from separate work crews in Salem on Tuesday, officials said.

Officials noticed Justin Carnes and William McGinnis, both 30, were missing from their respective work crews around noon, the Oregon Department of Corrections said in a news release.

Carnes was working near the Oregon State Penitentiary, and McGinnis was working near Salem’s Bush Park, officials said. Both are inmates at Mill Creek Correctional Facility, a minimum-security prison in Salem that houses about 290 men.

The Oregon State Police is investigating the incidents.

Carnes has been in state custody since March 2015, officials said. He was convicted for first-degree assault and heroin delivery in Marion County, and his earliest possible release date is February 9, 2020.

McGinnis has been in state custody since November 2014. He was convicted for first-degree burglary in Lincoln County, and his earliest possible release date is April 17, 2017.

Both were last seen wearing blue T-shirts and jeans, officials said. The shirts and jeans have “inmate” and the Department of Corrections logo stenciled on them in orange.

Carnes is about 6 feet tall and 210 pounds and has brown hair and eyes.

McGinnis is about 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds and has brown hair and eyes.

Officials ask anyone who has information about either man to call troopers at 1-800-452-7888.
