ST. LOUIS — An inmate at the City Workhouse was still on the lam Thursday morning after walking through an open gate and scaling a razor-wire fence Wednesday night.
Two corrections officer have been put on leave for not locking that gate.

Missing was Allen Brown Jr., 29, of Creve Coeur. Brown had been jailed in the city since November while he awaits trial on drug and firearms violations.

The jail, officially called the Medium Security Institution but often called the City Workhouse, is at 7600 Hall Street, north of downtown. Brown escaped sometime between 8 and 9 p.m. Wednesday, city officials say.
